The Veterans Oath Project is aimed at reinforcing the commitment and the sense of brotherhood of America's veterans. The Oath is an expression of our dedication to remembering those who have done so much in the name of freedom by promising to make the best of the opportunities that freedom provides.
As a veteran, when you meet one of America’s Gold Star Mothers or anyone who has lost a loved one in service to our nation, you realize instantly what you represent to them. You realize, whether you like it or not, that you serve as a reminder of their loss. I’ve had the opportunity to meet some Gold Star Mothers and I’ve seen the pain of loss in their eyes – and I refuse to take for granted, the fact that I got to come back.
The purpose of the Veteran’s Oath is to serve as a reminder to all veterans to pay our fallen brothers and sisters the honor and respect they deserve by upholding the values instilled in us by our respective branches of the service.
My wish is for every veteran from every branch of service to be sworn in and to place a copy of their oath on their nightstand, their place of business or anywhere that is highly visible – so that with just a glance we can be reminded of sacrifices that have been made in the name of freedom.
